Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a mainstretam healthcare professional service aimed at the physical treatment and management of a condition or disease to enable people to maximise their potential.

Are Physiotherapist's trained?
A Physiotherapy must have completed formal training to use the title 'Physiotherapist' and gain an Annual Practicing Certificate. Physiotherapists have generally studied to degree level or higher.

What is physical therapy?
It's the same as physiotherapy.

Who can get physiotherapy?
Anyone! See our pamphlet or website for what we treat here at Plus Rehab.

Do I need a referral?
You do not need a doctor's referral and you can lodge an ACC claim at the clinic.

What should I expect when I first come in?
The first session will include a history and comprehensive physical assessment to diagnose your problem. Treatment will usually start during this session but a complex injury may take more than one session to assess.

What kind of treatment will I get?
At Plus Rehab we understand that the body works as a whole unit and it is important that all areas are addressed as well as the local problem that you may have. We approach treatment in a holistic manner and address the cause of the problem rather then the symptoms. Treatment is likely to consist of a combination of manual therapy to your spine, joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves. Every patient is prescribed an exercise programme of some type. Additional specialist treatments like acupuncutre, strapping or orthotics may be used as part of your treatment.

How long will I be at the clinic?
An initial assessment takes around 30-40 minutes to complete. Follow up treatments usually las around 15-20 minutes, but you may stay longer to complete your exercise programme.

How long will it take to get better?
This depends on many factors and will be discussed with you after the initial assessment.

How many treatments will I need?
The average number of ACC treatments at Plus Rehab is 5 or 6 for most injuries - below the national average.
You may have more or less then this depending on how your injury progressess.

What do I do If i need any scans?
We can refer directly for Xrays and Ultrasound scans. MRI scans require a specialist referral.

What If I need extra materials (braces/orthotics etc)?
Your physiotherapist will advise you of any extra materials that you might need. We stock a wide range of braces and supports and can order anything we don't have in stock.

Can I bring someone in with me?
No problem. As long as you can all fit in the room!

Can I get a medical certificate for work?
Physiotherapists cannot issue a medical certificate. You need to see your GP.

What If I am not getting any better?
Sometimes injuries take longer to recover than expected. We may however try changing your treatment or seek a second opinion from a colleague. We will contact your GP should this be necessary.
